She is right - I lived there for six years. If you go to Poly (Government Hospital), it is very cheap (I remembered it only cost S$6), of course there are a lot people, if you do not want to wait, you can go to private doctors which cost more (I remembered for my son is S$55 back to 2002).

Singapore goverment DOES take care of poors.
