it's up to you to convince the school that your are the one for them and they are the one for you.

generally speaking, ea/ed is your opportunity for "reach". if you son does not want to be "locked" into ed, use ea for "reach" is a strategy. however, I understand you guys may have different strategy if his ultimate goal is medical school.
