Thanks, everybody. Our neighbor's kid goes to a private school, our kid goes to public school. I can tell our neighbor pay lot of attention to their kid's education since the public school here is excellent.

I feel the misunderstanding is mainly due to culture gap. It probably won't happen if they are Chinese too.
