need your advice

We live in Jersey city, NJ. We love the short commute to New York City. Both my LG and I have long working hours. My older daughter is going to be 3 year's old by January, my younger one is one years old.

The problem is that we do not have good public school in Jersey city and good private school have a long waiting list and needs interview, etc. What's your advice? My LG suggests me to spend more time on teaching my two daughters, does any JJMM have any experience on this.What should I teach and how can I get started? Any advice is highly appreciated. Thanks!
