Yale EA deferred and a question about essay

D got deferred to Yale EA.

Stats:
SAT I: 2340 (one sitting)
SAT II: Total 4: US His 730, others 800
AP: Total 10: Five of them 5,5,5,5,4; the ret five ongoing

Four languages scored high either in SATII or AP

500 hrs volunteering

kind of strong in Art, music and sports, but no big awards


Appears everyone got deferred, the school has ~10 applied to Yale EA, 6 were confirmed to be in the "deferred" category with the remaining status unknown, SAT I scores ranging from ~2200 to 2380, including a couple with legacy.


Question: D said that once you submit the essay for common application to one school (Yale), then the same essay has to be used for common applications to other schools. Is this true? Or we can modify the essay when applying to other schools (different style or majors) or even write a totally new essay?
