We do know the very basics, such as greetings, numbers, etc.

Know a bit broken French/Spanish/Italian.

FRA is central enough that you can go to most places in Europe via cheap LCCs (Low Cost Carriers) or by Trains. LCCs these days usually are cheaper than the trains but some folks would use trains for overnight travel thus save time.
