we don't really "follow" what the abacus is doing, but we "understand" why it is doing so, and that is why we trust it. If we don't understand why it is doing so, we shouldn't trust it.   

AI is more complex, but the idea is the same. 

Therefore, mystifying AI and trusting AI are contradictory.
