For long time I was puzzled and more bothered by the behaviour of many IDs until you revealed the 翠绿/粉红 issue, and recently the more decisive observation on the characteristics of 被征服者.
The idea that people in general can be conquered征服 never came across my mind though I knew people can be terribly defeated and even destroyed. So I wasn't discerning the difference between "defeated" and "conquered". The not conquered though defeated and the conquered see two different worlds with two different histories. Certainly they don't understand each other.
So all my life I have been a user of that common word without knowing what it means. There must be a number of other words like this witnessing my clumsiness.
