It might be a case of personality disorder. Her rigid daily schedule "to improve herself" seemed genuine, at least serious. And she once mimicked Job's dressing style too. Youngsters do that , but rather unusual for career adults.
Cases like hers may be more common but to lesser degrees. Many modern artists are fake, they are just mimicking Van Gogh. Most wouldn't go as far as cutting off their ears. Unfortunately this girl took the drama far enough to sacrifice her ear.
I believe I see this psychological play in WXC too. Many pretend to be Liu Xiaobo, Lu Xun though they don't possess a bit of their courage and independence. They just keep pretending ... perhaps, in order to deceive themselves.
