I always had some awkward feeling towards life in the US since my early years. Found no resonance among Chinese peers I thought I was probably unique. Then I came across Hopper's works, a bit blank at first sight, later hit like a bullet right at the core of my feeling. Then I knew my feeling wasn't invented by myself. I consider Hopper America's true national artist, the most honest and the most original. Everyone else seems a bit affected. Even Homer's natural landscapes in comparison seem pursued.
