公元前一世纪一个罗马人,Titus Lucretius Carus (后世称 Lucretius),写过一首长诗,叫《De Rerum Natura》(英文翻成“On the Nature of Things”)
诗里有这样文字:
“Suave, mari magno turbantibus aequora ventis,
e terra magnum alterius spectare laborem”
网上有现成的英译:It is sweet, when the winds disturb the waters on the vast deep, to behold from the land the great distress of another.
还有:
“Suave etiam belli certamina magna tueri
per campos instructa tua sine parte pericli”
英译:It is also sweet to contemplate the contending-forces of war, arrayed over the plains, without any share of thy own in the danger.
