NYU Law professor Jerome Cohen, who helped broker the deal to bring Chen to the U.S. in 2012 after Chen's escape, said in an interview with PBS that aired May 4, 2012 that "the idea [was] to have Chen come for up to a year," after which, Cohen said, Chen would be "more comfortable with himself" and "more adjusted to freedom."
