哪位高人可以帮助回答一个中国文学里的故事？请见内

一个同事说他家客厅里有一幅中国画，是关于 “two men saying good bye to each other.  I was told that it is based on a classic Chinese novel in which one man is going to travel for many years and he and his friend recognize that they will never see each other again."

他想更多的了解这个文学故事，有高人知道这可能是什么典故吗？多谢!
