Especially the 'you2 yuan2 jin1 meng4' recorded in 1980s.

Those people from Shanghai performs in a way similar to Lang Lang playing Beethoven. You feel Beethoven is more an American than a German/Austrian.

Another anecdote, Zhang Ji4 Qing1's counterpart (No.1 male player XIAO SHENG) Dong3 Ji4 Yao2 refused to come back to China and instead stayed in West Germany after one trip there.

After June 1989, a bunch of people mentioned in this article (from Shanghai) stayed in US.
