民以衣食为天- Locally Sourced: A Very Californian Restaurant

Yesterday's dinner venue was a fairly new establishment that served small plates with all locally sourced ingredients. Local here means within the State line. It has a four star rating on Yelp, so I was quite looking forward to it.

I had difficulty coming up with descriptors for the interior. The best I could do was "rustic artsy". Very cozy, stylish yet low key ambience.

The wall panels were also sourced locally, reclaimed barn wood.

Even though it claims American comfort food (I did notice chicken pot pie on the menu), the bulk of the menu items screams fusion, or shall I say California? Even its name is a nod to California being the 31st state to enter into the Union.

I ordered soup of the day - ginger carrot

It was delicious, an odd yet harmonious combination of sweet and pungent.

While we were waiting for more dishes to come, I noticed the simple decor on the table, absolutely locally sourced :-).

Our appetizer - roasted Brussels sprouts with applewood smoked bacon..

One of the small plates - Ox tail tacos with celery root slaw and pickled red onion. This is definitely a 5 star!

Forever the meat lover, my hu*****and ordered California chicken wings ...

.... and the day's special - braised pork shoulder

We finished the meal with its Carmel Apple Walnut Bread Pudding.

When the bill came, I could not help taking a picture of it.

Only in California.

A perfect meal, and definitely a place worth coming back..

Now the dress-up part. Peplum tops have certainly caught my fancy. I paired this same shirt before with a pair of skinny jeans, and it seems that it could easily be dressed up pairing it with a pencil skirt..

I love the Celine bag. I was going back and forth between the color black and this, and I am glad that I picked this color.
