Some are very soft. Unless you want to knit a fine scarf, I now prefer wool than cashmere. What about you?

The Hermes orignial one was made by 25% cashmere mix. It was unbelievable soft with bulky yarn (50 yard per gram), but too warm for me. It was for wearing it in outdoor winter in Europa. If you want something for indoor, a fine yarn or non-cashmere one might be a better choice.
