I have to admit that I don’t know anything about Alaska Ferry. Ferry, as I understand before, is a service which is used to send people and their viecles across a river. Alaska Ferry I guess must be different since your information sounds like they send people and viecles from one place to another over the ocean. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

I probably need to search the internet for more information on Alaska Ferry and their schedules/locations. This service sounds like a perfect alternative if we want to see some major attractions and avoid long driving.
