What you said is globalism which is a phenomenon with ancient roots. Globalism is a description of a basic network connection between countries around the world, economically or culturally.
Globalization is a rapid process in which economic connections at large scale deeply effected the relationships between countries with different or confrontational political systems, values, cultures and ideology because of the level of economic interdependence.
For example, the Silk Road provided an economic and cultural link between ancient Europe and Asia. Of course, the Silk Road was plied by only a small group of hardy traders. Its direct impact was felt primarily by a small group of consumers along the road. In contrast, the operations of global financial markets today, effect people and gov. all around the world at much deep level, and could change our life style, gov. policy and national security.
