这位学生，名字是 Austin Tong, 6月3日在他的instagram 贴了David Dorn的照片，David Dorn是一位77岁的退休警察，黑人，在6月开始的BLM骚乱中被打砸抢暴徒杀害。Tong在这个post里说“Y'all a bunch of hypocrites".
另一个帖子里，Tong贴了一张他自己手持rifle的照片，写道“Don't tread on me. #198964", 暗指6 4事件。
很快，这位学生就被Fordham的学生指责为煽动愤怒，没有团结黑人兄弟姐妹，伤害少数群体。虽然他反复解释他拿枪的照片是为了纪念6 4，跟BLM无关，但是没人在乎。学校开始调查他的instagram，public safety的一队官员到他家对他进行询问。校方表示，在下个月之内，Tong的行为一定会被惩罚。
作为惩罚的一部分，Tong将不能在没有校长许可的情况下进入大学校园，不能参选任何学生社团的领导职务，他往后一学年只能上网课，鉴于他秋季就是senior，这就等于他余下的大学课程都不能在校内完成。另外他还要完成关于纠正隐性歧视的培训，并写一封道歉信。
以上惩罚，Tong称之为”soviet-style punishment“：
“Coming to this country as an immigrant, one would think that America is a nation of law and free speech. Yet that is no longer the case, I was forcibly silenced, faced verbal and assaulting harassment from mobs, and subjected to Soviet-style interrogation and punishment by a Jesuit university that claims in its own code of conduct, that it protects ‘freedom of expression and the open exchange of ideas.'”
