They may know. A lot of times people are texting or talking on their cellphones. I almost hit 2 cars nearby my company on one single morning, and both the other parties were texting while they drove.
It also helps to have a bigger car. I used to drive a pick up and was hit twice by family vans. The vans were totaled both times, but almost caused no real damage on my pick up. Their insurance certainly paid body shops for the damage and rented cars for me.
