Two teenage boys have been arrested and charged with arson for allegedly starting multiple fires across Princeton University’s campus over the past weekend, Princeton Police said Tuesday.
The teens, ages 14 and 17, whose identities were not released because they are minors, are from Montgomery Township and Princeton.
The teens were arrested Tuesday afternoon when Princeton Police received a call about two young men who had just started a fire in the wooded area behind Princeton Community Village.
Officers tracked the boys down to a local residence where they were arrested. They are both charged with arson.
Police allege the boys started five separate fires throughout and near campus between Friday, April 5 and Monday, April 8. They allegedly set fires in a classroom on the 12th floor of Fine Hall, in Jadwin Hall, in two locations at Princeton University Stadium and at the West Building on the campus of the Institute for Advanced Study.
On Saturday, a Princeton firefighter suffered minor injuries while gaining control of the blaze in Fine Hall. The classroom building was still closed Tuesday and university officials redirected classes to other locations
Authorities estimated that the fires caused about $1 million in damages to the university structures.
