I don't think it is easy to find any flaw in the procedure.
supported by probable cause, police officer can make warrantless arrest. probable cause arises when
(1) the police officer saw the crime committed;
(2) the facts and circumstances taken together indicate the crime has been committed.
Problem (1) why you tried to alter/erase the information on your ID -- A reasonably prudent person under similar circumstances would not have done that.
Problem (2) Why you decided to take other people's property without permission? Why you refused to comply when the cop requested you to return the book? -- arguably probable cause, and almost constituted all elements for common law larceny
(1) wrongful taking personal property of others;
(2) intent not to return and permenantly deprive the truth owner of possession;
"当事人应该找自己要好的老师和同学为自己作证,证明自己一直行为良好,学习也不错。如果因为这样一点点不当的行为让他这样一个还没有迈出校门的学生背负这样的罪名是过分了。"
-- may not be a good idea. Character evidence generally not admissible to prove you acted in conformity with that character. plus once you try to introduce your character evidence, this opens the door for prosecutor to introduce witness' tesitmony regarding the same trait of character (such as dishonesty -- for example only, not referring to you). (this part may not be accurate, need you to check with your attorney;)
It is not necessary to go that far actually. try to get rid of the case at earlier stage as you can.
