Winter Journey to Windy Point
by Vincent Wen
In the winter of 2025, around Christmas, I traveled with my family to Windy Point Lookout above Tucson. The cliffs rose in bare, weathered rock, and the wind was sharp but not cold. The sun and a pale half-moon were both visible in the sky. These lines record that day.
The winter sun struck ancient cliffs upon;
High in the open sky, the half-moon shone.
Where saguaros thinned along the rising stone,
The pines endured beside the cliffs alone.
At times a wandering cloud stood high and lone,
And once a bird broke through the shadowed zone.
Let not life's burdens follow where I've gone;
The valley's echo keeps my spirit on.
