I don't need to notice the rabbit before the dog. Usually the dog needs to learn permission game first---the dog asks for permission by eye contact before she does anything. It is a must. In this situation, the dog needs to ask before she runs out to chase the rabbit. Once your dog knows to ask for permission, it will be much easier to control.
