Dear Kitt:

Thanks so much for the thoughtful and meaningful comments on the legal isssues one might be facing when he or she wants to download or upload music on internet. Your dissection of the possible problem is professional and well organized, indicating excellent progresses you have made in your graduate training program.

I have only limited knowledge about copyright laws. To my understanding, copyright laws should be designed and enforced to protect legal rights of both sides: authors/publishers and readers/owners. Briefly, what I can conclude is that it should be safe to:
(1) listen to a music CD or DVD disc I bought;
(2) listen to music or songs online without downloading;
(3) download or upload music or songs that are not protected by copyright laws;
(4) download or upload music or songs with permission even if they are protected by copyright laws.

Well, that makes life to be somewhat complicated. Then, the question left is: how can one be sure that a friend in YYKD does not take the risk of violating copyright laws when he or she wants to post music or songs here? Is there a safe way for us to be active without risk here in YYKD? Your opinion as a legal advisor will be extremely useful and meaningful.
