I just had a chat with my boss - a non-chinese, Assistant VP of a university. He and his wife have been working hard to push his 7th grade son to get straight A. His son was punished for getting two Bs - no video games for the whole semester. 

Our Chinese parents are not the only ones who care about academic accomplishments of their children. Our Chinese are unique in that we like to criticize our own group.
