Cannons were first used in the Song dyansty. There

were firearms as well, but not too popular as it is slower to reload than arrows (let along repeating cros*****ow arrows) and much more dangerous to use. The firearms first use bamboo, then to bronze and iron. Range also very limited. Without cros*****ow -> firearms -> cannons, there wouldn't be rockets
