马来西亚外交部发表声明表示,马来西亚政府10月4日晚间召见中国大使,抗议包括一艘调查船在内的中国船只出现在东部沙巴(Sabah)和砂拉越(Sarawak)附近的在南中国海的马来西亚专属经济海域。
马来西亚外交部表示,“马来西亚的一贯立场和行动基于国际法,以捍卫我们的主权和在我们水域的主权权利”。
据法新社等媒体报道,马来政府召见了中国驻吉隆坡大使欧阳玉靖,阐明马来西亚的立场,抗议中国船只在马来西亚专属经济区(EEZ)的“存在和活动”。
马来西亚外交部指责中国船只出现在的婆罗洲岛马来西亚部分的沙巴和砂拉越沿海,违反地区及国际法。
这是马来西亚今年第二次召见中国大使,抗议中国船只在有争议海域的活动。今年6月,马来西亚紧急起飞战机拦截出现在婆罗洲岛外南中国海上空的16架中国军机。马来西亚与中国就南中国海部分海域主权有分歧。马来西亚指责中国侵扰其主权,北京则表示,这些军机在进行正常训练。
近年来,北京加强在南中国海争议海域的军事化行动,建造人工岛屿,并在那些岛礁上设立军事哨所和部署军事装备,修建可供军机起降的机场,并不断向有争议海域派遣庞大的“渔船队”和“调查船只”。
马来西亚、菲律宾、越南、文莱和台湾都对南中国海的部分海域宣称拥有主权,而中国宣称对几乎整个南中国海地区拥有主权。
最近几年,美国更加频繁地派遣军舰在南中国海进行自由航行,以平衡中国的军事影响,维护这一海域的正常通行。中国对此感到恼怒。
去年,马来西亚和中国还在砂拉越海卷入了长达一个月的冲突。当时,马来西亚国家石油公司正在那里勘探石油和天然气,而中国也向该地区派出了一艘研究船。
