The agreement was reached between Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization and Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties in the Japanese capital.
The document for the cooperation was signed in Tokyo ICHHTO Deputy Head Mohammad Hassan Talebian and President of Tokyo National Research Institute for Cultural Properties Nobuo Kamei in Tokyo.
The agreement aimed at implementing joint projects to protect Iran's cultural heritage in various fields like knowledge, architecture, archaeology, archaeological survey, art history, anthropology, intangible cultural heritage, site management and study of museum.
The two sides also agreed on holding joint workshops, symposiums, conferences, and meetings in the aforementioned areas.
In a relevant development in mid-July 2014, Iranian Ambassador to Tokyo Reza Nazar Ahari called for the expansion of Iran-Japan archeological relations and cooperation.
"The two ancient Iranian and Japanese civilizations share many cultural commonalities which have provided abundance of capacities for the further development of the relations between the two countries in the field of archeology," the Iranian envoy said, addressing the 14th Iranian Archeology Seminar in Tokyo.
Nazar Ahari pointed to the important role of archeologists in introducing cultures and civilizations, and said, "Archeology is a field that helps nations to have a better and more precise understanding of their pasts in a bid to establish better relations at present."
Over 80 Japanese archeologists and researchers who are interested in Iran's culture and civilization attended the one-day seminar in Tokyo.
