The distribution of physicians across specialties is as follows: Primary care physicians: Approximately 535,256 Specialist physicians: Approximately 566,404 Gender distribution among physicians: Male physicians: 678,000 Female physicians: 424,000 It's worth noting that the number of female physicians has been increasing, with women comprising 37% of the physician workforce in 2022, up from 30% in 2010. The physician-to-population ratio has also been improving, increasing from 277 to 301 physicians per 100,000 people between 2010 and 2018. However, the distribution of physicians varies significantly by state, with the District of Columbia having the highest concentration and states like Idaho having the lowest.
