My father had a car accident on 7/18/03 in Oakland CA. As a pedestrian crossing at a crosswalk, a car hit him. The police report cited the driver failed to yield the right to the pedestrian.
He got traumatic brain injury and now is on severe disability conditions, and is staying in a nursing home after being in the hospital for 26 days.
The driver had minimum liability insurance. He seems live a low-income life. He is in mid 30s, has a family and a job.
My trouble is to find an attorney who will take the case. The ones I have contacted so far gave me the impression that we will have a case of damage/award but the judgment is hard to collect. After I gave all the details to the attorneys, their interest in the case dramatically decreased.
What should I do?
Can I sue the driver on my own?
What are the good resources that I can get professional helps from if I have to fight with his insurance companies and go to litigation all by our own?
