Please help if you know what i can do to protect me!

I know there have lot of nice people could help me

I did international shopping online. The seller told me I used wrong coupon after I paid. I told him you can stop my order, because I will only pay the amount that was showing dring I check out.
The seller still sent the item to me but with a damaged one. I contacted seller after i got it. The seller ask me send back to him with full refound to me.
But later, he said no full refound. after deal with him, he still said he unable to cover my return shipping cost.
I'm a student, International shipping is expensive to me. How can I have to pay about $50 for his damaged item!
I paid by credit card, Is there are some way I can protect me if seller not going to cover my return shipping cost?
