请教老猫和各位 about criminal complaint on driving a car without regist

Sorry I cannot print chinese! I got suggestions from a friend to request some help here. first time to show up here. I'd appreciate any opinions. thanks in advance!

the registration of my car got suspended and revoked by RMV/DMV because my previous insurance company sent a "no-insurance-coverage" note to RMV after I switch to another insurance company for better premium and coverage. at the moment I got stopped by a police, I was under insurance coverage but with no registration reinstantiated yet. the police gave me a ticket with no fine but with the "criminal application" checked. two month later I got the "summons to defendant" notice from district court. I am required to show up in court to answer a criminal complaint with offense counts:
1. registration suspended, OP MV with c90$23
2. uninsured motor vehicle c90$34J

My questions are:
1. by showing my current insurance policy documentation, I can prove that I was under coverage at the time of violation. should it still be a criminal complaint for me driving a unregistrated car?
2. if I have to plea guilty for one offense count, is it bad enought to affect my process of pending I-485?
3. should I hire a lawyer or do you think I can handle such case myself?
