I think you should do: check after you stop

on the stop sign. The right one is:

1 Stop in the stop sign
2 Slower poll out to get better view to see if there is any car coming. Specially if your view is limited.
3 Do pass in a fast action. Like speed up, etc. and continue check the road and perpare to stop.
