首次开庭没有show up,lost the case, how to appeal

朋友的小型公司的客户起诉 和法庭reschedule

Apparently 法庭did not receive the reschedule letter
and my friend did not show up in the first trial

结果判决lost the case, need to pay many $$$$

请问这种情况是否可以Appeal,
或者需要怎样特别的appeal程序
（例如是否需要解释why did not show up 云云）
