sometimes a judge would recuse herself because she is related to one of the parties. For example, she owns stocks in one of the companies. in addition, lawyers, judges all can be asked to recuse themselves if they can not act impartially.

there's something else called spousal privileges. so a hu*****and cannot testify against a wife, etc. this is similar to attorney-client privilege, doctor-patient privilege, etc.
