i'm guessing you are not in califonia cuz california has specific charges for domestic violence instead of the broader assault charge.

you need to tell us which state you are in so that 老貓 or any other attorney on this forum can at least give you an idea and point you in the general direction, and make an educated guess about your chances of plea-bargaining for a lesser charge / dismissal of the case
