Please help on an issue of buying a house

hello, recently we bought a house which found out has a big problem. However, the seller didn't disclose the defect before we bought it. It's expensive to hire a lawyer compared to the expense of the fixing (~$8,000) according to the result of the consultation to an attoney. So does anyone here can give us suggestions on how to do it without a lawyer? Thanks a lot.
