请问夫妻吵架造成Misdemeaner Child Abuse case in NC 需要请律师吗?

事情的过程是这样的,因为怀孕是否请我父母来还有被layoff等问题和老公冷战了一周多,周六早上8点他要去公司加班,我坐进他的车子要求他在家里加班(他可以在家里加班的)并且把其他问题说清楚,3岁多的儿子当时还在家里睡觉,结果我老公让我下车,我不肯下,他就一直把车开到公司,在路上和到公司门口我一直说不能把小孩一个人留在家里,要他开回去或者给我车钥匙让我回家,他不让说那你为什么要上车,我急了身上什么也没有带就跟他抢钥匙,他硬是不给,我们就在他公司里打了起来,然后8:30左右我报警叫来了警察,说我老公不给我钥匙小孩还在家里,我请求他们赶紧送我回家,可是警察们说要先fiugre out what happened, 这样一直折腾到9:40我们才一起回到了家,这时小孩已经醒了,自己跑出来到车库外的drive way上正在找我们.警察于是就说我们两个把小孩留在家里将近两小时没人管,就控告了我们两个人都是misdemeaner child abuse. 10月9号上庭.

在这里想问问懂法律的朋友们,象我门这种情况在北卡可能的处罚是什么呢?有没有必要请律师辩护或者自己上庭也不会有大的区别?我是准备自己上庭跟法官说清楚,可是已经收到一堆律师的广告了.
