STP:
I received a letter of notice from INS, which stated the number of exemption on my 2003 tax return was wrong.
FYI, i was filing under dual-status (OPT to H1B), i.e. 1040 as main form and 1040NR as supplemental form. I called the INS office and they told me that I shouldn't claim exemption ($3050, for single) once on each form, which together counts twice as total (since the $3050 is for the whole year).
But the problem is: they still owe me nearly 1000 even I correct the exemption mistake. Do you have any experience in dealing this kinda situation? Can I write to the INS again and claim my money back? Since I am moving to a new apartment, can I use my friend's permenant residence address for future correspondence purpose with the INS? Or they will send mails to my "registered address" whatever?
I really appreciate ur help. and thanks for ur advice!
