离婚--求助老猫及懂法的人

因为她的丈夫的暴力倾向，我的一个亲戚打算离婚(她挨打过几次，因考虑到他的前途，未报警)，她现已经回到了国内，不再想回来了。她结婚的时间不长，一年半，没有孩子。婚后以两人名义买有一房子，首付20%以及一辆在女方名下的新车。除房子银行贷款外，现有一些信用卡欠款(主要用于买家具等一些大物件)。丈夫婚前买有一房子在出租。丈夫的收入大约在$10万/年左右。在这婚后的一年半期间，女方大约有3万左右的进账，现无工作。象她这样的情况，我的亲戚能在美国起诉离婚，以拿到他们房子的一半首付，以及她的车和部分的401K(一年半)？是否可以让别人代找律师？因我的亲戚已在中国，她的成功的可能性有多少？
