孩子事不能随便改姓呢?

我有个问题想向各位求助：前妻和我离婚，嫁了个美国人，孩子随她一起在美国居住。最近我听说她打算让孩子随老外姓，在中国我知道如果没有父亲同意的话，孩子事不能随便改姓的，在美国是不是也是这样？我怎样才能维护我的合法权益呢？
