Please Help! How to make my landlord fix the apartment and

Good morning, I'm living in an apartment. I have been in the same apartment for 17 months. My bedroom ceiling started leaking yesterday morning. The dirty yellowish water dripped on my bed. My sheets, blankets and mattress are all wet. My mattress has yellow stains on it. I put a bucket under the leak and there is 1 inch of brwon water in it until afternoon. I took pictures on all of these.

I called my landlord and they sent someone and removed my bed. They called a company and found the leaking was because of snow melting. I called the landlord this morning and they said they put some anti-freeze stuff in the roof. The problem is they can't garantee that the leaking won't happen again. So that means the problem isn't complete solved. I think there is some problem with the roof and they just don't want to spend money to fix it. I'm very worried since I can't stayed in such a room and wait for my stuff get damaged. Besides, I have a little child.

So my questions are: How can I do to make my landlord fix this roof and should I get some compensation (discount for rent) for the trouble? My landlord said I need to write them a letter but I don't know what should I say. Thanks a lot.
