personal fianaial planner

I recently got a personal finanial planner, and he will help me set up 529 for my kid, I and my wife already have 401k, he said don't have to put the maximum to 401k, and got to set up ROTH-IRA($3000/each person), he also sugestted some insurance(life and long term disabality), the life insurance is called VUL. he will charge 1% every year for all the money he mananged. Does that sound good? Thanks!
