can anyone tell me how to register a brand name for dvd players in the US?

my old college classmate in China just opened up a new dvd player factory in china, he can offer me a very low fob price to export into the US. i want to register a brand name for the dvd player and market in the US. can anyone tell me what is the whole legal process? thanks alot.
