Briefly, call your insurance company and tell them the truth. Insurance company will mail you a declaration letter with top manager's signature. This letter indicates the cancellation date of your insurance coverage.

Bring this letter to DMV and explain your tag was lost.

I don't know if you have the buyer's name and contact number?
