I know it is a little bit early to ask tax questions, but I am wondering if somebody can help me.
For year 2006, I was a F1 and already stayed in US for 6 years so I filed jointly with my hu*****and (F1) using 1040. Because my hu*****and changed his visa status before and can not use $5000 tax exempt, I have to give up the my $5000 tax exempt in the last filing.
For year 2007, I got a job and my h1b will take effect on Oct 1. My hu*****and is still a F1 holder. Can we file seperately this year? If we can seperately, can I still use the $5000 tax exempt? Now we stay at difference state. If we can file seperately, my hu*****and won't need pay high tax rate.
Thank you for help us.
Help: Can we file seperately for the year 2007?
