afraid of unknown

People are afraid of unknown. In this case, I guess your
boss is covering his back with such action because the
he thinks your behavior maybe "irrational" or unpredictable.

Here people can file any petition they want. It is up to the court to make determination. In this case, you can certainly fight the petition with a lot of character witness, family, friends, neighbors, etc.

It is never a good idea to fight in your workplace. It is
always harm you one way or another.
