请老猫帮忙

我今天收到一张管理处寄来的通知，上面写着：
the management office has received a report from *** plumbing on May29,2007 stating that the hoses attached to your washing machine was not properly installed,as a result excessive water went down to the suite below causing severe damaged to the ceiling and wall of the entrance washroom room.the management hired a contractor to do the necessary repairs in suite 2910 because it 's ur negligence you are responsible for paying the invoice.

其实管理处派人来看我洗衣机的时候我在场，正如所说的，因为那个接洗衣机的水管接得不紧导致了漏水，但我在这住了两年，一直没发现直到有人上来修，洗衣房很小，就是放一部洗衣机的空间，但是水也从没有从洗衣房溢出来，不仔细看真的看不到，我当时问修理人HOW WOULD THIS HAPPEN,他说，IT JUST HAPPENS.当我问他我以后应该怎么注意时，他说，IT JUST HAPPENS,YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING。

我不知道应该怎么做，我也不知道对楼下具体有什么DAMAGE,因为我没有亲眼看到，可以站在我的角度给点意见吗。谢谢！
