I've met similar problem as yours. i only claim small amount of money and my insurance company did not take care me. So, i have to find barrister by myself. it costs me thousands of dollars. my solicitor tried to contact insurance company for me and let me understand the policy. because i only got third party insurance, the only chance that my insurance company would take over this case is defendant sue me.i think you can let your insurer know you have to response (sued).(here i did not understand whether liability is same as third party cover.) it it is the case, let your insurer know.if they still refused to talk to you, find a solicitor (give him $200) to call insurer for you.(my experience is that insurer would listen solicitor rather than you. my final advice is avoiding go to court. i understand your situation. it is only a small amount of money. you should contact jerk's insurer and try to get settlement before the court. if you lose the case, you have to pay all legal represent fee from jerk's insurer. please consider my suggestion carefully, cindy.it is stressful and dark period you will go through and unfair legal system. you are chinese, it is a problem. on the court, magistrate have no patience to hear your english.trust me, because i know solictor always raise doubts and you could not remember all the detail such how many meters, how many seconds even how long have you hold your local driver licence.the judge just banlance the doubts.you win one case does not guarantee you win another one. higher court will have stricter balance limit than small court. i think it is reason why the jerks' insurer appealed. think about your situation carefully before you go further. that is my suggestion. i wish i could help you and good luck.
